The Pax Americana Institute’s Strategic Space Initiative

PAI’s SSI (Strategic Space Initiative) will focus on creating a unified strategic approach to space rather than the balkanized chaos that exists today.

Premise: American and allied security is dependent on America in the premiere role in guaranteeing security for American and allied defense. This is not only the defense of American and allied citizens, territory, trade, transit, and economics, but in democratic values, human rights, and the rule of law. In the 20^th century, this was primarily done through American and allied air and naval power, integrating hard power with alliances, diplomacy, and trade. The 21^st century will be governed by the nations that are the foremost actors in space.

Pax Americana Institute’s SSI will seek to integrate:

• Space, National Security, and the new Space Service/Corps/Force
• Space and commerce including but not limited to mining
• Space and trade
• Space and scientific and technological innovation
• Space and exploration
• Space and human beings including but not limited to space colonization
• Space and areas including but not limited to the role of the Moon, Cislunar, LEO, GEO, Asteroids, and Mars

Why Space?

Space, it’s been famously said, is the final frontier. And although mankind has ventured forth into that frontier briefly, we’ve barely even scratched the surface of possibilities it holds. Classical conservative political thought calls America and her allies to lead the way for the rest of the world, and in space it is no different.

There are economic, political, military and scientific leaps forward waiting for us in the outer reaches of space, and the U.S. must lead the charge to get there. The Pax Americana Institute believes that the same primacy that has safeguarded the American way of life for generations must be carried into space. For once achieved there, we can see global stability, freedom of trade and security for America and her allies continue.

Why Midwestern Conservatives Should Care

Midwestern conservatives already contribute engineering, research, manufacturing and exports to the U.S. efforts in maintaining global dominance, and space will be no different. Whether it’s aerospace engineering and exports from Wisconsin, training and education from Ohio, technology and brain trusts of Minnesota, the Midwest is crucial to U.S. national security and foreign policy.

Classical conservatism, as the Pax Americana Institute enshrines it, understands that U.S. primacy on the world scene is crucial to American and allied interests, as well as global safety and security. With Russia, China and other nations racing to space, we must double our efforts to support and defend U.S. stability and dominance.

Classical Conservatism Guarantees Our Nation’s Security

The issues facing the U.S. are not unique to the East or West Coast. America’s conflicts have always been resolved not by the elites along the oceans, but by the holistic effort put in by all our disparate parts. Midwestern conservatives have contributed their lives, their fortunes and their own comfort for the sake of the country, and now we turn to a new opportunity: space.

Alfred Thayer Mahan’s contribution to military history is a key lesson for classical conservatives, one that can easily be ignored by Midwesterners due to our distance from oceans: the nation with naval dominance controls the world. The space age will do for U.S. national security and economic freedom what the oceans did in the 19^th Century. Midwestern conservatives must rally behind our nation’s efforts to achieve, maintain and exploit primacy in space.
